The Shuakhevi HPP Cascade construction works will end in autumn 2016. Total investments portfolio makes up 416 million USD. The electricity generated by Shuakhevi HPP will fully remain in Georgia over the winter period, while the country will export excessive energy in summer period. At this stage, 80% of the project works have been completed.
„Shuakhevi HPP is a unique project that is being implemented in compliance with all international standards. We can openly say that Georgia has never built similar power facility. Both foreign and Georgian specialists have designed the project.
Shuakhevi HPP will make significant effect on the Georgian power system. For energy safety of the country, besides Shuakhevi HPP, other major and small HPPs should be also built timely and successfully”, Gia Arabidze, dean of the Georgian Technical University faculty for power system, noted.
Expert Giorgi Chikovani agrees with this opinion. Shuakhevi HPP Cascade project is one of the successful facilities in the Georgian power system, he said.
“The project is being financed by major financial institutions like EBRD, AGB, IFC. WE have provided consultations to the EBRD concerning this project. The HPP construction works will end in several months. Professional engineers and specialists were involved in the project implementation and the project is managed by a team of professionals.
I believe Shuakhevi HPP is one of the best investment-infrastructural project among those implemented in Georgia over the past years. As to the strategic importance of the project, naturally, we do not depend on only this HPP, but this is one of the best HPPs that will play a significant role for Georgia’s energy independence.
I am sure that the scheme under which this project was launched and implemented will be the best sample for other projects too”, Giorgi Chikovani noted.
