Service Tariffs in Health Sector Rise by 6.1%, Transport Sector – 6.5%

Geostat, national statistics service of Georgia has published the 2018 October inflation report. The consumer basket value has risen by 2.35 year on year, while, due to specific sectors, major upturn was recorded in health and transport sectors.

Health sector: prices rose by 6.1% with 0.51% contribution to total growth index. Prices rose in the following subgroups: medical goods, equipment and device (up 12%), inpatient medical services (up 3.8%) and hospital services (2.3%).

Transport: year on year growth made up 6.5% with 0.86% contribution to the annual inflation. Growth in personal transport made up 10.3% and public transport services – 2.4%.

Apartments, water, electricity, natural gas: prices rose by 4.4% and the sector’s contribution to the annual inflation made up 0.37%.

Strong drinks, tobacco: prices rose by 5.7% with 0.39% contribution to the annual inflation index. Tobacco product prices rose by 9.5% and strong drinks saw 1.9% upturn.

Throughout the year of 2018, the highest inflation was recorded in August (3.1% and the lowest figure was marked in June (2.2%).
