Based on Sakstat’s declared data for 2015, 64% of foreign visitors to Georgia gave recreation and leisure as the purpose for their visit.
22% of non-residents of Georgia visited the country for business and work purposes, and 1.5% for medical purposes. In total, 1.17 million foreign guests stayed at Georgian hotels in 2015.
Of the foreign guests at hotels and hotel-type establishments who visited the country for leisure and recreational purposes, 12.9% came from Russia, 12.5% from Turkey, 9.9% from Israel, 8.1% from Ukraine, 5.7% from Azerbaijan, 4.8% from Armenia, and 4.6% from Poland.
The number of visitors in the ‘recreation and leisure’ category nearly doubled compared to the previous year, while the number of ‘business and work’ category visitors fell slightly, and the number of ‘medical’ category visitors increased insignificantly.
