In May 2016 the Producer Price Index (PPI) for Industrial Products decreased 0.4 percent over April 2016. The index declined 2.8 percent compared to May 2015 and rose 22.4 percent over the 2010 average.
In May compared to previous month prices were 8.2 percent lower for mining and quarrying which resulted in a -0.33 percentage point contribution to the overall monthly index change. Within the section prices considerably decreased for mining of energy producing minerals (-23.9 percent).
In the reporting period the section of supply of electricity, gas and water also posted a 1.6-percent price decline and its impact on the overall index change amounted to -0.22 percentage points.
The annual PPI rate was mainly affected by price changes for the following sections:
- Manufacturing: prices for the section went down 4.8 percent with the relevant contribution of -4.02 percentage points to the overall annual PPI change. Prices decreased for manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco products (-4.4 percent) and manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (-11.2 percent);
- Supply of electricity, gas and water: prices for the section increased 17.4 percent and contributed 2.20 percentage points to the overall PPI rate.
