Producer Price Index for Industrial Products decreased in April

In April 2016 the Producer Price Index (PPI) for Industrial Products decreased 1.2 percent over March 2016.

The index declined 1.6 percent compared to April 2015 and rose 22.9 percent over the 2010 average.

In April compared to previous month prices decreased 1.3 percent for manufacturing and the section contributed -1.04 percentage points to the overall monthly index change.

Prices were lower for manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco products (-1.3 percent) and manufacture of machinery and equipment (-21.8 percent). In the reporting period prices also decreased 2.6 percent for mining and quarrying, with the relevant contribution of -0.11 percentage points to the overall index change.

The annual PPI rate was mainly affected by price changes for the following sections:

  • Manufacturing: prices for the section went down 4.3 percent and the contribution of the section to overall annual index change amounted to -3.58 percentage points. Prices decreased for manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco products (-3.2 percent) and manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (-15.4 percent);
  •  Mining and quarrying: prices went down 12.5 percent with an impact of -0.54 percentage points on the overall index change;
  • Supply of electricity, gas and water: prices for the section increased 20.5 percent and contributed 2.56 percentage points to the overall PPI rate. www.geostat.ge, info@geostat.ge
