Prime Minister: All Strategic Facilities Turned out to be in the Hands of Russia under the Previous Government

The country’s prime minister made a comment on the meeting between  the Georgian Minister of Energy and Gazprom representatives at today’s session.

Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili says the Gazprom issue was raised by irresponsible politicians who are trying to speculate with the issue.

“It is unfortunate that when the Silk Road forum, such an important event, is underway in the country, media attention is directed to irresponsible politicians’ statements. We made a comment on the issue, but commotion still continues. Their main goal is to overshadow the most important forum in our country,” said the Prime Minister.

He once again explained that the talks with Gazprom are of technical nature.

“The future of our country is what our population cares for. They don’t care of why Minister of Energy Kakha Kaladze discussed technical issues with Gazprom representatives.

The Gazprom issue was politicized by our opponents. I want to explain once again – our country is a link between the East and the West, the North and the South. The Gazprom gas pipeline has been supplying gas to Armenia for many years. Due to this transit our country gets a certain amount of gas, and since Armenia wants to increase gas volume, our country is, of course, interested to get more gas. I cannot understand why is all this so unusual”, said the Prime Minister.
