Nino Zhvania: Primary Healthcare is of Most Significance Entire Healthcare System

Works on the primary healthcare reform have begun. The International consulting company Global Alliance fully supports the Ministry of Healthcare in carrying out this reform.

The primary health care reform serves strengthening of the family doctor practice, which in turn contributes to illness prevention.

MD, professor, founder and president of the Georgia Medical Women’s Association, Nino Zhvania, believes that diseases are easier to prevent than to treat. “The primary health care is most important in the health care system. The entire civilized world has moved on to preventive medicine. Preventing diseases is easier and cheaper than their treatment and subsequent costs. Primary health care is vital in particular since it’s important to detect chronic disease symptoms early on in order to treat or prevent them timely,” Nino Zhvania told CBW.

She also assessed the universal health care program and noted that this program has given the treatment opportunities to people who had not gone to doctors for about 20-30 years due to lack of funds. “My suggestion would be to develop a reasonable package of services and medicines that the citizens will have unlimited access to,” Nino Zhvania said.

Primary healthcare reform, universal healthcare and the elimination of hepatitis C programs will be implemented simultaneously in Georgia.
