Milk, Meat and Egg Production Declines in Georgia

Milk, meat and egg production has declined in Georgia.

According to preliminary indicators of Geostat, national statistics service of Georgia, in the second quarter of 2017, milk production made up 183.6mln liters, down 7.7% as compared to the same period of 2016.

Meat production declined by 13.8% to 14.4 thousand tons. Egg production decreased by 4.2% to 151.4mln ones.

According to preliminary data for 2017, at the end of the second quarter the number of bovine animals amounted to 1 018.9 thousands, down by 8.5 percent year-on-year. The number of dairy cows and buffaloes equaled 492.3 thousands. The total number of sheep and goats increased by 5.0 percent year on year reaching 1 231.9 thousands. The number of pigs was 194.6 thousands, 10.4 percent greater compared to the same period of the previous year. The number of poultry equaled 11 718.2 thousands, decreased by 0.4 percent from the same period of the previous year.
