The system of gas pipelines – Southern Gas Corridor is unlikely to start operating before 2020.
Janez Kopach, the head of the European Secretariat of the Energy Community has declared to RIA Novosti.
“I don’t see any possibilities to do it faster”, he declares.
According to him, SGC also includes creation of gas pipeline TAP to be ready by 2020. In March, Vice-President of the European Commission for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič suggested that SGC could be established a little earlier (2020) than it was expected.
To remind, the SGC will include systems of gas pipelines TANAP in Turkey and TAP in Europe to supply gas from Azerbaijani field Shah Deniz through Georgia, Turkey, Greece, Albania to southern Italy. Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline is expanded within this project frame, Georgia expects investment of 2 billion. However, 20% (400 million USD) of the planned investment will be spent on acquisition of commodity and service from the local supplier.
