Iranian Ambassador: Georgia and Iran May Exchange Electricity

“Iran is capable of satisfying Georgian market’s demand for natural gas and oil and a supply of energy carriers, in general”, Iranian Ambassador to Georgia Seyed Javad Ghavamshahid told Business Course. We have bilateral interests, because Georgia may become Iran’s important partner in terms of production and trade, the Iranian Ambassador noted.

“I believe your region is very interesting thanks to its strategic geographical location and only mega projects should be carried out here”, the Iranian Ambassador noted.

Similar mega project may be implemented as part of Georgia-Iran cooperation. Feasibility studies have been already carried out, 4 technical sessions were conducted and the fifth one will be held the next month, the ambassador pointed out.

“The project comprises several directions such as services, tourism, transport and so on, however the largest format of cooperation is expected in oil and gas transportation and production field. Under the bilateral agreement, an oil refinery will be built in Georgia. We also plan to exchange electricity and transit electricity to other countries through Georgia. Iran is also interested in housing sector and hydro resources of Georgia. Iran has huge experience in this direction and we are able to implement mega projects by use of Georgia’s potential”, the Iranian Ambassador noted.
