Gov’t to Help Farmers Suffered from the Lari’s Devaluation

The Ministry of Agriculture and the Project Management Agency are in active negotiations with the banks to help farmers enjoying the preferential agro- credit.

Chairman of the Farmers’ Association states “Commersant” that the negotiations are being held to convert loans released in the  US dollars to the Georgian lari.

According to  Nino Zambakhidze,  at this stage the mechanism is being developed of how and when the case will be commenced. Zambakhidze notes  that the Ministry of Agriculture and the Project Management Agency are concerned and actively engaged in the issue.

After the lari began falling, some farmers said that because of the difference in the exchange rate they would have to  pay the fund available for wage payments to cover a credit. As reported,  610 farmers which  have taken the loan in the amount of  $ 30 -600 thousand  within the preferential agro-credit program are facing problems.
