Government to Spend 13 Million GEL to Protect Nut Trees from Insect

The government will spend 13 million GEL to fight Asian Cassida Nebulosa. Out of 13 million GEL, Georgian government will cover 7.5 million and 5.5 will be paid by American government.

In the frame of state program, National Agency of food will purchase necessary appliances and technology which will be granted to the local municipality.

The nut plantation protection procedures will be implemented on 48 5400 hectares of territory. Chemical treatment of the plants will start in the middle of May and continue until the end of June. 

Asian Cassia Nebulosa was discovered in Georgian in 2015. According to the experts, nuts sector lost about 50-60 million GEL.
