Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili will resign from his post today, CBW has obtained information from a reliable source.
According to our source, Garibashvili did not go to his work today and is planning to announce his resignation later in the day. Giorgi Kvirikashvili, the country’s Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs will substitute Garibashvili after his resignation.
Currently, Georgia’s PM cannot be reached on his mobile phone, as he is not answering Georgian press services calls in order to confirm the information.
Allegedly, one factor slowing down the process of resignation and Giorgi Kvirikashvili’s enactment as the PM of Georgia is that Kvirikashvili’s mother has passed away this week. Her funeral is planned tomorrow.
After that, Kvirikashvili will be named Georgia’s PM as Garibashvili resigns from office.
No apparent reasons for the PM’s resignation are known yet, as Garibashvili presented his government’s 3-year Progress Report only two days ago and enjoyed his team’s success on Georgia’s visa liberalization with the EU last week.
