Giorgi Gakharia: Tbilisi International Airport Must Become a Hub

We want the Tbilisi airport to grow not only in size but in the content itself, – the Economy Minister said at the groundbreaking ceremony of a new terminal at Tbilisi international Airport.

Giorgi Gagaria has pointed out that Georgia is aspiring to become an economic business-logistic hub in the region and definitely, it must start from the airport.

“We have some problems and must work with the management companies, because more direct flights should be performed from Tbilisi Airport to various destinations. Of course this is not easy, but we are working in this direction and if we really want the city to be the center of the region, then we must achieve this goal, “Giorgi Gagaria said.

The Minister notes that service quality will be increased by adding of a new terminal. Arrival and departure will be more comfortable from Tbilisi.

“Everything is measured in figures and today, the new terminal, Tbilisi Shota Rustaveli International Airport can serve 4 million travelers per year by adding a new terminal, which is very important,”- Gakharia noted.

To remind, construction of new Arrival Terminal of Tbilisi International Airport started on June 27, 2016 and ended in the shortest period. TAV Georgia invested $ 33 million in the construction. In total 60 million was spent on improvement of infrastructure in the main airport of the country.
