According to the Ministry of Economy of Georgia, the statistics for January 2015 show several important external factors.
In particular, it is clear that the decline in exports was mainly due to a fall in exports of Georgian wine, mineral water and citrus to Russia and Ukraine.
“At the same time exports to the EU grew by 21% and amounted to $ 8.5 million – in particular, the growth was recorded in exports of nuts to Italy, Germany, and Spain. In addition, exports of fruit and vegetable juices to the EU increased by 54%, export of green- by 60% , exports of fish – by 169%”- the Economy Ministry’s report reads.
General decline in exports amounted to 30%, mainly due to wine (65%) and alcoholic beverages (87%), mineral water and citrus. This mainly concerns Russia and Ukraine.
Vehicles lead in the list of export goods – in January their exports amounted to $ 65 million.
In addition, exports of gold increased 32%, men’s clothing – 9%, steel – 42% and oil – 35%.
“Decline in exports is also observed in categories such as ferro-alloys and semi-finished steel “- the Ministry’s report says.
