The Government of Georgia plans to complete main transportation arteries by the end of 2020, Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili noted at the ceremony of unveiling a new 7-kilometer section of the Agara-Zemo Osiauri 12 kilometer highway.
Under the European standards a 4-line concrete highway is being constructed with two parallel bridges and 2 flyovers.
When delivering speech, Giorgi Kvirikashvili talked about importance of constructing a new transportation network and thanked donor organizations for participation in the project implementation.
“We plan to unveil several important sections, the Rikoti section, i.e. Chumateleti-Argveta zone. We have started active development of this project and in the near future real construction works will start. Moreover, we will finish all main arteries in Georgia by the end of 2020″.
“By that period, the first phase of Anaklia seaport development will have been also completed, as well as main directions of the East-West and North-South routes. Roads connecting main tourism routes will be also completed by that period, including roads to Svaneti, jointly with tunnels, the Kutaisi-Abastumani road. We plan to transform Kutaisi into Georgia’s domestic hub that will be connected with all directions and routes. We also plan to design other important projects. This year we will launch designing of Mta-Tusheti motorway project, because it is of vital importance in terms of security and cultural heritage preservation. We also plan to construct new motorways to develop the Racha Region and connect Gomi and Racha. All these projects will bring serious stimulus for the development of Georgia”, the Prime Minister said.
Giorgi Kvirikashvili also expressed hopes that the private sector will actively engage in the mentioned projects and Georgia will become one of the important chains in the Silk Road route.
