Georgia to Have own Candidate to the Position of a Secretary General of UNWTO

H.E. Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia nominated H.E. Zurab Pololikashvili, Ambassador of Georgia to the Kingdom of Spain to the position of a Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

Georgia will thus have its candidate nominated by H.E. Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia to the position of the General Secretary of UNWTO serving tenure from 2018 through 2021. Minister of Economy in 2009-2010 and now, Ambassador of Georgia to the Kingdom of Spain has been engaged in the election campaign.

“Mr. Pololikashvili had a leading role in the full manifestation of the touristic potential of Georgia, in attracting foreign direct investments (FDI) to the sector of tourism and in facilitation of innovations. With his efforts Mr. Pololikashvili paved the way to the sustainable practices of the country in tourism and initiatives aimed at the reduction of poverty. As a result of his endeavors, Georgia has turned into one of the most preferred destinations for foreign tourism in the region” noted the Head of the Government of Georgia

He also expressed hopes that Zurab Pololikashvili will make a significant contribution to the achievement of ambitious aims and goals of the UNWTO. Secretary General of the UNWTO for 2018-2021 will be selected in May 2017 by the Executive Board comprised of 33 nations.
