FDI Inflows to Agriculture Sector Decline 2.3 times, Ninefold Contraction Emerges in Health Sector

According to Geostat, national statistics service of Georgia, 3.6 million USD foreign direct investments (FDI) were made in agriculture sector in 2017.

This is the 4 years’ bottom. Namely, FDI inflows to agriculture sector made up 13 million USD, 2014 – 12.3 million USD, 2015 – 18.6 million USD, 2016 – 8.3 million USD.

The lowest FDI inflows was recorded in heath sector in 2017. Only 3.3 million USD was invested in the mentioned field, down 9 times compared to the 2016 indicator (28.6 million USD); The record inflows to this field was recorded in 2015, when FDI inflows constituted 140.3 million USD. The inflows marked 0.7 million USD in 2013 and 8.7 million USD in 2014.

Ratio of three major sector in total FDI inflows accounts for 60.5% in 2017. Transport and communications sector ranks first with 527 million USD, financial sector is second with 304.4 million USD and development sector is third with 294.6 million USD.
