The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (the Bank) will allocate EUR 7 million to Batumi City Municipality for a project to expand the City’s fleet with diesel and electric buses.
To note, 5.5 million is a loan, while 1.5 million is a grant. The sum will be spent on the procurement of buses. The contract has been already signed on Thursday. The project envisages supply of up to 25 low-floor diesel buses and up to 25 low-floor diesel buses. Batumi Municipality is expecting bringing of new buses late this year.
This is the first project in terms of purchasing electric buses in the Caucasus. New buses will operate in the direction of the airport-city center / railway station in a specially selected direction. Open tendering for the above contracts is expected to commence in Q3 2017.
