EBRD Discusses Funding of Solid Waste Collection Project in Georgia

European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) discusses allocating a 10 million EUR loan for Georgia for the development of a Solid Waste Collection Project.

According to EBRD, international donors will allocate additional 5 million Euros. The project will fund acquisition of waste collection vehicles, containers and other necessary inventory.

Expected cost of the Solid Waste Collection Project is 18.6 million Euros. A close discussion of the project is planned to be held on April 20.

The Solid Waste Project will meet the country’s needs in solid waste management facilities, as foreseen in the National Emergency Reconstruction Plan.

The project will strengthen the institutions responsible for solid waste management and encourage the private sector’s participation in the waste collection services.

EBRD’s Solid Waste Project will also help develop a Coastal Zone Management plan, which will serve to protect the Georgian coast from further degradation.
