Customs Service Prevents Cigarette Smuggling in Huge Volumes

Revenue Service has prevented 2 attempts of illegal penetration of 40 940 pieces of cigarette to Georgia.

According to Revenue Service, at Sadakhlo customs checkpoint Armenian citizen G. S. was trying to transport undeclared cigarettes to Georgia through his own vehicle. Another attempt was prevented at Ninotsminda customs checkpoint and 18 600 undeclared cigarettes were arrested.

Revenue Service has forwarded both cases to Finance Ministry investigation service.

As reported, Revenue Service has released second report on prevention of cigarette smuggling. In all cases customs officers have arrested a huge volume of smuggled cigarettes.

As reported, tobacco industry representatives warned Government that after excise tax growth on cigarettes, cigarette smuggling would break out from Armenia, where cigarette prices are far lower.
