Chinese Strategic Market As Georgian Wine Export Increase

In the past 12 months the amount of Georgian wine China imported had increased dramatically. In 2015 China imported 2,672,154 bottles of Georgian wine – a 122 percent increase on 2014.

Georgia was participating at the 10th China International Wine Fair (CIADE) as an honourable guest.

The event took place in Luzhou city in China from March 19-21, 2016. The five-day event has drawn more than 700 firms from 25 countries and regions in the world.

At the exhibition Georgia’s stand showcased the country’s rich wine history. Visitors were also invited to taste Georgian wine and learn more about traditional Georgian wine-making methods.

Georgia’s National Wine Agency supported eight Georgian wine companies to participate in the fair.

These wine companies were: Winery Khareba, Bagrationi 1882, Dugladze Wine Company, Teliani Valley, Chateau Mukhrani, Teleda, GWS, Bolero & Co.

The Agency announced Georgia will also have a stand at the 94th China Food & Drinks Fair in China, held from March 21-26 in Chengdu, the capital of southwestern China’s Sichuan province.

Promoting Georgian wine in China was extremely important, said the Agency, adding China was one of the strategic markets Georgia was targeting in terms of wine exports.

The CIADE, the only international, professional  wine exposition approved by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, has been held each year since its debut in 2006.
