Azerbaijani Combines to Join Cereals Harvesting in Georgia

This year Georgia has reaped a record volume of cereals, the Georgian Agriculture Ministry noted.

Because of bad weather the harvest time in Kakheti and Kvemo Kartli regions started almost simultaneously. Agriculture machines of LLC Meqanizatori have been fully involved in the harvesting process – 86 units of combine harvesters. About the same quantity of agriculture machines of the private sector have been involved in the process. Despite this, delayed harvesting process created a deficit of agriculture machine services.

For the purpose of successful harvesting and maximal protection of agriculture schedules, the Georgian Agriculture Ministry conveyed additional quantity of combine harvesters from Azerbaijan. Based on the agreement between Georgian and Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministers, Azerbaijani agriculture machines will take part in the harvesting works for a month. Deputy Agriculture Minister Levan Davitashvili has attended the process of conveying the agriculture machines through the Red Bridge checkpoint.

“As compared to the previous years, this year we have received a record volume of cereals harvest. The average harvest has almost doubled and makes up 4 tons on a hectare, according to forecast indicators. The space of cultivated land plots has also increased compared to the previous year. The grain space exceeds 80 000 hectares and the barley space exceeds 40 000 hectares.

The Georgian Agriculture Ministry will assist farmers to ensure harvesting and accommodation of cereals by maximal protection of agriculture schedules”, Levan Davitashvili noted.
