April Records 20% Upturn in Tourist Inflows

The inflow of tourists in April 2016 has increased by 17.2% to 462 480 ones as compared to the same period of 2015.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, the number of tourists made up 171 235 (37% in total quantity; +20%); transit – 107 500 visitors (23.3% in total quantity; +13.5%); others – 183 745 visits (39.7% in total quantity; +16.8%).

As to the January to April interval, the period has recorded 1 596 916 visits, up 15.4% compared to the same period of 2015.

In January to April period 578 100 tourists (+17% y/y) have spent more than 24 hours in Georgia, while the number of transit visitors has decreased to 297 031 (-0.5 y/y).

In April a major number of visits was registered from Turkey (+12%), Azerbaijan (+17.6%), Armenia (+8.7%), Russia (+26.7%) and Ukraine (25.9%).

Positive tendencies are maintained from EU countries too, especially Italy, Latvia, and France (respectively +26%, +25% and +14%), Central Asia Countries – Kazakhstan (+29%) and Uzbekistan (+64%). Eastern Europe countries – Belarus (+36%) and Moldova (+36%), Near East – Israel (_106%), United Arab Emirates (+141%).
