Angela Merkel: We can’t Refuse to Cooperate with Russia in Oil and Gas Direction

“Germany wants to have good relations with not only Georgia and Azerbaijan but also with Russia,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel said at the meeting with students in Tbilisi. Student’s question was about West Energy Politics and the relationship with Russia in this regard, which Merkel said in reply:

“Russia plays a very important role, there was an impression that the Cold War has not yet ended, and we are still enemies of each other, neither the European Union nor NATO is the enemy of Russia and that Russia needs to understand it. Russia makes it complicated with Soviet Union countries. Those countries still have territorial dispute.

There was close ties to the energy direction during the Cold War. We can not refuse to cooperate with Russia on oil and gas. We can get gas from Azerbaijan too, but the truth is that this gas can not be obtained at the price of Russia. I am not against trade relations with Russia, “Merkel said.
