14 companies have expressed willingness to build underground gas storage in Georgia.
According to “Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation”, 55 companies have been registered at the pre-qualification stage of open international tender for procurement of installation and exploitation (EPIC) works, however proposals were presented by 14 companies.
As a result of the assessment, companies will be selected at the second stage of the tender by the beginning of the next year. They will provide detailed technical proposals and EPIC works.
“Oil and Gas Corporation of Georgia” plans to start construction works in the first half of 2018. Two boring-wells will be drilled at the first stage of the construction. As a result of the works, additional geological information will be received and technical parameters of the storage will be specified.
The construction of Samgori gas station is scheduled for 2021. By this time, the volume of gas supplied to Georgia from Shah-Deniz gas pipeline will be significantly increased. The cost of the project will exceed $ 250 million with preliminary estimation, and it will be possible to save up to 300 million cubic meters of gas.
