Turkish companies have to rearrange transport routes at the background of tension relations with Russia. A number of private Turkish companies show interest in cargo transportation via Georgia-Azerbaijan route.
“The issue is under the discussion, but we should not forget national companies. If Turkish companies’ offers will coincide to interests of Azerbaijan companies, they might be carried. Otherwise, this issue should not be discussed”, – news agency Trend quotes the statement of Azerbaijan’s Minister of Transportation Ziya Mammadov.
However, Minister of Turkish Economy makes a note on the importance of Trans-Caspian route and declares, that it should become a priority for cargo transportation in Asia. The minister says, that meetings have been already held with representatives of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkey. They have discussed custom procedures, tax reduction and increase of transit quota.
Georgia’s role will be transit function in this case. To remind, flexible cargo transportation is planned via trans-Caspian corridor between Asia-Europe. The agreement is achieved on competitive tariff policy. The tariffs should be determined at the meeting held in Georgia on May 17.
