The European Fund “categorically dissociates” from the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Foundation David Lee’s recent statements about NGOs.
According to the foundation, the statements made by Lee on social networks “attack the civil society organizations and their activities.”
“Freedom of expression of each person is one of the highest values for us, but we reserve the right to categorically disseminate the recent statements of the Chairman of the Board, because we believe that the statute damages the reputation of the country’s civil sector and its real function, one of the guarantees of democratic governance” – reads foundation’s statement.
Lee, the former president of MagtiCom, who is currently the CEO of European Business Association, is currently on the board of the European Fund and recently publishes the controversial texts contained on his own page on Facebook.
In one of the most recent posts, Lee called “comedy, tragedy or fraud” criticizing NGOs about the statement of Irakli Kobakhidze.
The European Fund writes that their employees and members of the Board of Trustees “have always highlighted the high standard of public statements”, and David’s “recent action is in principle contradicting this high standard set by the foundation.”
“In July 2018, the management of the European Fund and all members of the Supervisory Board unanimously publicly dismissed the chairman’s statements. Sadly, this step was not enough, since David Lee continues to decline existing civil society organizations, while the mission is to strengthen the civil sector and increase citizen engagement in public life. We share responsibility, and we are working to carry out relevant activities within the procedures established by the Supervisory Board, “the Foundation says.
