Kutaisi returns function of education centre – construction of the largest, modern university complex in the Caucasus is started.
Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili held the presentation and noted, that the joint budget of Kutaisi University City and Technological Centre of Tbilisi amounts to 1 billion EUR and it will totally funded by Fund “Cartu”.
“Kutaisi is not occasionally selected for the new University City. Kutaisi is the city , where Gelati Academy has been functioning, which had an important function of educational centre”, -George Kvirikashvili has announced and thanked former Premier Bidzina Ivanishvili for implementation of the project.
“We have very smart young people, who need modern education. Existence of the university will keep intellectual resource to the country. Students will be able to study all the most in-demand professions however those with a technological direction will be the priority,” the Premier noted.
According to George Kvirikashvili, University City will be spread over 140 Ha of land in the outskirts of Kutaisi, in the middle of a forest surrounded by a lake. The facility will be able to cater for 60,000 students. Renewable energy systems and “green technologies” will be used during construction of Kutaisi Education Centre.
It has been noted at the presentation, that the University will be supported by countries of the United States, Germany and other the world’s leading countries. However, intensive cooperation is already started.
“Today many foreigners study in Georgia. But the Government’s plan to create a regional education and research hub by building the largest, modern university complex in the Caucasus. It will create Georgian’s attractiveness further”, – the MP notes.
According to him, Like the Technological Institute in capital Tbilisi, Kutaisi University City will be completely financed by the Cartu Foundation – the support should be continued until the university and state will not have enough resource to keep the University Complex with own funds.
