Regulations to be Imposed on Outdoor Advertising within Association Agreement with the EU

Association Agreement signed with the EU envisages setting the regulations for outdoor advertising.

Director of the advertising company Outdoor.ge Konstantin Chavchanidze states that the  adoption of the Association Agreement in the current form will cause damage to the companies operating  in the outdoor advertising business. He says  that the Association Agreement includes if  not a total prohibition on outdoor advertising, but some restrictions.

He notes  that when the agreement was initialed, the company wrote a letter to the Minister of Economy and asked the revision of the article. “We addressed a letter to the Minister of Economy in which we said that if cigarette advertising was banned, our business would seriously suffer. Our customers are mainly tobacco manufacturers and gambling business. So, this kind of prohibition will hit the outdoor advertising business,” Chavchanidze explains.

In his words, the company gave some recommendations to the Ministry, however, since then they have not responded to them . “Outdoor.ge ” Director says that this time the working process is underway in the government. Chavchanidze brings an example of  international experience and says that such a ban isn’t  in effect in  any European city.

CBW has failed to clarify at what stage is work on this issue and what kind of restrictions will be imposed on the companies operating in the outdoor advertising business.
