According to Georgian media reports, in January-August 2015, a total of 232 companies owned by the Russian citizens were registered, while in the same period of 2014 – 215.
However, only 21 companies are working actively. For Russian business the most attractive areas are trade, tourism and construction. The Russians name simple procedures for registration as an advantage but later the local market becomes not so attractive for entrepreneurs from Russia.
The company GasTrans was registered in January 2015, and is mainly engaged in the import of gas from Russia. Originally it was planned to expand its activities in neighboring countries, but this intention was abandoned because of high tariffs. The company is currently active in Georgia and thinks about the growth of imports, if Gazprom does not interfere.
According to the founder of Sedmaks Dmitry Tulchinsky, reforms carried out by the previous government prompted him to start business in Georgia.
“Now the economic situation is deteriorating , the activity in comparison with previous years has declined, new projects are frozen. Earlier, there were more investments , constructions, the rate of development was higher while today nobody is in a hurry, no one takes decisions,” the Russian businessman notes.
The company Sedmaks works in the field of engineering.
