Tbilisi City Hall discuses expansion and modernization of subway.
Deputy Mayor confirmed to “BusinessContact” that construction of the stations are considered at the new locations, moreover the City Hall is working on an ambitious project, which aims to invest large-scale in Tbilisi metro.
“We have ambitious plans linked to the metro, including the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) large-scale investment program. The subway exists for over 50 years and in fact, the study of the subway infrastructure in order to improve it, has not been started yet. This includes reset of the subway on energy-efficient infrastructure, which means a new type of carriages, less spending and better transportation”, – said Lekvinadze.
According to him, there are some ideas regarding the construction of new stations, but feasibility study must be carried out for that purpose yet, after which the locations will become known to the public.
Until then, University Station will be opened from summer. Modernization of the carriages is specially planned for this station subway. The project, which is funded by 83 million by the bank, envisages opening of a new station between Delisi and Vazha Pshavela metro stations and putting of the second tunnel under the operation. The project was canned through 22 years.
