Ministry of Economy of Georgia: Talks about Construction of an Oil Refinery in Supsa are not being Held

Economy Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili states  that negotiations on the construction of an oil refinery in the Black Sea village of Supsa are not being held.

“A business group showed interest in the construction, but we have not agreed on the issue, respectively, negotiations are terminated, ” – he said.

According to him, the reason for the termination of the negotiations was that the business group showed no further interest in the project.

“We are going to announce a tender for the construction of an oil refinery, but not in Supsa and in Poti. As for reports  spread in the media about the  Russian company’s plans  to build the plant, it does not correspond to reality. First, the investor with whom we negotiated was not Russian, and secondly, as I’ve mentioned, negotiations are terminated, respectively, it does not matter where the company was from, “- the Minister notes.

He also notes that no talks on this issue are planned and those who wish to build a plant in Poti must submit bids before February 1.
