Geoplant Director, producer of Gurieli Tea, sees revival in the industry, but considers that the activities are insufficient.
Mikheil Chkuaseli says that state support program of tea has a stimulating effect on a large process, but the process itself must be implemented by the private sector.
“Gurieli” was born in a very heavy competition with multinational brands, it is impossible to achieve success in greenhouse conditions and constantly have a hope of the state is not correct. There are many new brands emerging, packaging is improving and marketing support is activated. This is good, but it is still not enough. Our success formula is now in the export markets, we need to be activated there”, says the businessman.
Businessman Mikheil Chkuaseli also notes that tea industry will not be at the same level as it has been in the Communist era and it is not necessary”. He names the main advantages of Georgia in the field.
“Focus on quantity is not a priority for us. Another aspect is that you will not be able to grow in the modern world if you are closed down. Development is in your goodwill and cooperative capabilities, as well as utilizing your own advantages. Our advantages are in ecological purity, special aroma, balanced taste of green tea and diversity of fruit”, – says Chkukaseli.
