HUB Georgia: Government Plans to Eject WIZZ AIR from Georgian Market

“Government of Georgia plans to eject Wizz Air from Georgian market”, Vaso Urushadze, executive director for HUB Georgia noted. To this end, Ministry of Economy has already staged pressure on Civil Aviation Agency management, but the issue was postponed because of the current presidential elections.

“Based on reliable sources, we have information that Government of Georgia plans to make certain changes in aviation market, namely in the segment of passenger transportation and restrict competition. Reliable source has informed that in late October, when approving the winter schedule for Wizz Air, the Minister of Economy staged pressure on the Civil Aviation Agency management not to approve this schedule, but his request was refused. The decision was postponed because of the current elections and we expect the Ministry of Economy to resume his efforts after elections. IN practice, Ministry of Economy has decided to eject Wizz Air from Georgian market”, Vaso Urushadze said.

Another airline My Way Airlines is also under pressure and artificial barriers are being created to it, he added.

“Another Georgian airline MyWay Airlines is also persecuted, which is not enabled to perform flights to Russia, despite the company has satisfied all due requirements. The company is made to suspend flights from Tbilisi to main directions”, the HUB Georgia director said.
