Gov’t Plans to Impose Restrictions on Subsidized Import

The government plans to provide subsidized import restriction.

According to Zurab Tkemaladze,  Chairman of the Sector Economy Committee, one of the reasons forthe above-mentioned initiative was 30% subsidy of agricultural products in Turkey that allows  Georgiato import products from this country  at a lower price.

Tkemaladze claims that the new regulations will notviolate the  WTO rules and will  not cause discontent among the trade partner countries.

When asked  whether restrictions on imports will lead to the shortage of  products or price rises, in Tkemaladze’s  opinion  it is not expected, since there are areas in Georgia, which  are able to meet the demand of the Georgian population.

Trade rules and trade principle envisage equal conditions for both local entrepreneurs, local farmers and  farmers working abroad, ” – the Chairman of the Sector Economy  Committee of the Parliament, Zurab Tkemaladze notes.
