Georgian Railway has submitted a report on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for effective contact with Kutaisi Airport Railway, which public reading will be held on August 11 at Kutaisi Airport.
For the convenience of passengers, the EIA report provides 4 alternatives of the project and recommendation is given for the 3rd variant; namely, construction of new 2.6 km railway line near the new airport, which will connect the passage bridge and the airport building.
“This alternative requires additional investments, time and private lands. It requires great effort for the railway, carrier and wires, but in this case additional costs should not be made and moreover, investment expenditures are significantly low comparing to investment expenditures of Alternative 2”, – the report says.
Construction of the new railway line will cost 2.7 million EUR to the Georgian Railway. However, German IFB estimates 4.810 million EUR.
Among other options are the passenger transfer by buses to the airport and the Kopitnari station, service of the electric train from Kutaisi Airport to Kopitnari Railway Station and build a pedestrian road of 700 m.
