Within the frameworks of the second, $140mln compact of the Millennium Challenge Corporation – MCC$ 68 million is being invested in educational infrastructure projects in Georgia. In 2018, the Millennium Challenge Account – Georgia, which implements the MCC’s Second Compact with Georgia, continues to rehabilitate public schools in the regions throughout the country, and provides fit out works of new 4,750 square meters campus of the San Diego State University and Ilia State University in Tbilisi.
On February 7th conference will provide detailed information on current and planned procurement and infrastructure projects.
In 2017 Millennium Challenge Account – Georgia finished rehabilitation of 30 public schools in Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Racha-Lechkhumi, Kvemo Svaneti, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Shida Kartli, Kakheti and Kvemo Kartli) and additionally rehabilitation of 28 public schools in Kakheti region. In 2018 full rehabilitation of 33 public schools will start in Western Georgia.
During 2017-2018 MCA-Georgia rehabilitated and equipped 4,250 square meters of educational and scientific infrastructure at the San Diego State University (Tbilisi State University, Georgian Technical University). In 2017, MCA-Georgia purchased $ 4 million of the latest laboratory equipment and simulators for 45 new funded vocational education programs.
The Second Compact of the MCC: in 2013 the US Millennium Challenge Corporation and the Government of Georgia signed another $ 140 million grant (Compact) aimed at overcoming poverty and promoting economic growth in STEM fields. The compact entered into force on July 1, 2014 and is being implemented by the Millennium Challenge Account – Georgia.
